How we use cookies and similar technologies.
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Browser storage works in a similar way and keeps small pieces of information on your device. We use both to make AutoFinder work, and keep their use to a minimum.
This policy explains what we store, why, and how you can control it.
Needed for the site to work: signing in, keeping your account secure, taking payments and moving a check between pages. You can't switch these off in our settings.
Remember things for you on this device, such as the free screenings you've run.
Our own visit counts use no cookies and don't identify you: we count which pages are opened, how long they're on screen, how far down people scroll, which buttons they tap, and the kind of phone or computer, its browser and its screen size, never what anyone types.
If you switch Analytics on, we also use Microsoft Clarity, which records how the site is used (taps, scrolling and the pages you see) so we can see where it's hard to use. Anything you type is hidden from these recordings. Clarity sets its own cookies (_clck, _clsk and others, for up to a year) and only loads when Analytics is on. Change your choice any time from Cookie settings at the foot of every page.
If you switch Advertising on, Facebook's pixel and Google's ads tag tell Facebook and Google which of our ads brought you here and whether you went on to check a car, make an account or pay, so our ads reach people likely to find AutoFinder useful. It's off unless you switch it on.

If you choose to sign in with Google, Google may set its own cookies on its sign-in page.
Only if you switch Advertising on: Meta, which runs Facebook, sets its own cookies (such as _fbp, kept for up to 90 days), and we tell it when you open a page, press Check, get a free check's result, make an account or pay. We never send it a registration, your email or anything you type.
